Thank you so much to all the exhibitors who made me feel humbly honoured in giving me the opportunity to go over their beautiful quality dogs.
I was very pleased with the overall conformation and balance of my entry of dogs, and had no dogs to report to the Kennel Club Breed Watch. I, sadly for the owners, had a couple of level bites in dogs of outstanding quality.
There were some dogs with expert handlers that looked stunning static, but placings were decided on movement which proves construction, condition and attitude, and some dogs just fell apart on the move, with dropping heads, poor topline and tail carriage and lacking long stride and powerful drive.
Correct construction and condition are not winning factors; the dog’s attitude is such an important part of his showmanship, he must adore showing to achieve top honours. And today I had a lot of dogs with this great ‘look at me’ attitude, really coming together on the move and literally ‘leading’ their handlers round the ring, with head held high. Attitude is partly hereditary and partly nurtured; I often see dogs, especially puppies, that have the fun stripped out of showing by the owner forcing them to stand still for long periods without having a bit of fun with them when the judge isn’t watching, and dragging them reluctantly round the ring on a tight lead, and today I just had a couple.

Look at the structure of this dog from any angle and he typifies everything that a golden retriever shape should be, also in the greatest of coat and condition and with the most beautiful of heads. He is a great representative of our breed standard. I have awarded him a CC previously and today he just lost out by a whisper for top honours. BVD.

Excellent quality boy, in super hard condition, on taller frame than 1. Moved really well for his age, with level topline. Pleasing head and kindly expression, good straight bone from all angles.

What a laster this dog has been, 10 years old and only just starting to show his age, he is the epitome of moderation and balance, and his great show attitude has won him much success over the years; beautiful head and as always in the best of coats.

Super construction dog in lovely coat, shown free with great personality. Gorgeous melting expression head, good length of muscular neck, level muscular topline. Moved very well.

Oh so stunning outline, correct length of leg to length of back and depth of body. Excellent reach of clean neck into correct layback. Good bend of stifle. Classic head and expression. Carrying just the right amount of condition. He moved really well, level with good reach and drive.

Super balanced construction dog, great overall muscular condition. Lovely expression with dark points, great reach of neck, well balanced angulation fore and aft. 1 just beat him on the move being more settled.

Great outline, totally correct proportions, strong bone. Super head with breadth and depth. Very flashy mover, carrying head high on lengthy muscular neck and with level topline powered by strong quarters and displaying good reach of stride. BPD

Dog of good substance. Very well constructed with good straight bone and in great coat and overall condition, short coupled, moved very well.

Stunning outline 14 month dog of great quality, short coupled with good length of leg and with the right space underneath to allow him to drop into his maturity. Excellent straight bone, between coats, showing his good hard condition body. Moved so very stylishly viewed from all angles, with great head carriage, level topline and tail carriage and excellent drive.

Different type from 1, but another dog of excellent quality and attitude. Love him standing free where he looks very balanced with correct length of back to height, and not overdone anglulation. But on the stack he drops a bit much into his angles giving the illusion of a longer dog. In super coat and condition, strong rear quarters, level mover with lengthy strides, and great head carriage.

Super outline 13 month young dog, looking exactly his age, his immaturity in this class could not deny his quality. Short coupled, correct length of leg to body length and depth. Good length of muscular neck, balanced angulation. Moved out so well with great elegance.

Compact dog in good coat and condition, adequate balanced angulation, good length of clean neck. Kindly expression from soft masculine head. Moved very well maintaining a level topline and tail carriage.

Square dog with clean, balanced moderately angled outline, would prefer a bit more length or upper arm. Bone straight when viewed from front and rear, neat feet. Classic head. In good coat, but could take a bit more weight. Moved level with excellent head carriage.

Very worthy winner of a high-quality class. Super classic outline, short coupled, perfectly balanced angulation, not overdone in any way. Excellent upper arm and layback with balanced rear quarters. Lovely expression with dark pigment, strong lengthy neck. In great coat and overall muscular condition. Eye-catching effortless mover, holds himself so well.

Really stylish dog, possessing balance, showmanship and personality. Shown free with good sound stance and symmetry. The correct shape for his age with space underneath to drop into. Rock hard muscles, he will challenge the best when he acquires a bit more coat and condition as he matures.
His balanced angles produced a very smooth long gait, with excellent head deportment and level topline and tail carriage.

Impressive stylish boy of correct proportions, in excellent condition and gleaming coat and handled to perfection. Pleasing head with happy expression. Well sprung rib, deep in body, short couplings. His movement a joy to watch as he held a very level topline and he glided round the ring with drive, reach and positive foot placement.

Stunning correct proportions outline. Beautifully presented and handled dog in tip top coat and condition. Very fluent lines from neck to layback to level topline and tailset. Strong neck set into good layback of shoulder and level topline. Excellent substance. Most gorgeous of heads with good expression. Carried himself effortlessly on the move.

Lovely character, gleaming golden boy defying his age with his effortless, reachy stride, maintaining a hard level topline. In excellent coat and condition. Of correct proportions, deep and mature with short couplings, would have preferred a bit more length of neck, but he has so much more to like.

Super outline boy with loveliest of gentle heads. Super forechest. Good length of muscular neck fitted into correct layback of shoulder and level short back. Slightly longer second thigh, but straight rear pasterns, and on the move maintained dead level topline with great style and drive.

Impressive looking good size boy with excellent length of muscular neck and short coupled compact body with firm topline and strong loin. Lovely well chiseled head and expression. Great layback of shoulder and balanced angles front and rear. Moved really well with good drive from well-muscled rear quarters.

My pièce de résistance out of an amazing class of exceptional dogs from all over Europe. He was expertly handled, in glamorous coat and excellent hard-working condition. He presented an overall picture of balance and exceptional quality. Well-turned fore and hind angulation. Strong muscular neck into well laid back shoulder, rock solid level topline. To win this class he had to possess all the essentials: attitude, conformation, showmanship, condition and pull out all the stops on the move. He didn’t disappoint and took my breath away as he streamed round the ring head held high with great reach, drive and level topline and tail carriage. Please to award him the CC.
2. Wild’s Sh Ch Fenwood Ell Masterpiece at Bluewaters JW
This boy seems to get better with age, on a taller frame than 1 and with the most clean-cut of outlines. He has great substance and balance and was in the best of muscular condition and in great coat. Super length of muscular neck, levelest of toplines and excellent rib proportions. Great soft smiley expression from lovely chiselled head. He did not fault on movement and maintained his level topline and sailed round the ring with long reachy strides and great drive from strong rear quarters. Please to award him the RCC.

Very typical conformation from FT lines, of course he didn’t look like the head and conformation of the show lines but was an excellent example of his type. He was in lovely coat and good hard condition. He had a great personality and expression and enjoyed his lap of honour!

Super balanced conformation, in great condition, gleaming dark gold coat, beautifully presented and shown to perfection. So very well constructed, good straight bone from front and rear, balanced angles. Moved really well. Pity he didn’t have any competition as he would have stood his ground.
